We all love how adorable and cute Golden Retriever puppies are. We just want to cuddle and play with them immediately upon seeing them. On top of cuddling and playing with your new puppy, you should begin training them too. You must remember that your new puppy is much the same as a baby. Just as a baby is easily distracted, so it your puppy, but this does not mean that your puppy is not trainable. It is now you should begin showing your puppy regular routines for them to become accustomed to. This will assist you in your whole training process.

Bringing Your New Puppy Home

The training of your Golden Retriever should start immediately after bringing your new puppy home. Firstly you should show your new bundle of love where his/her food or water will be and where it is okay for him to go to the bathroom when you are not taking him outside. It is also important to stress where your new puppy will be sleeping. Along with showing him/her where they will sleep, you need to start them on a schedule of when it is okay to sleep so as not to keep you up all night long. Getting a regular sleeping schedule under control right away is key to assisting in your successful training, not to mention...making sure you get your sleep when you need it also.

Everything is a Chew Toy!

One of the main things you need to address immediately is your puppy's natural urge to chew on things. Make sure you have provided enough chew toys for your puppy. When purchasing these toys, make sure that they are puppy safe and that he/she cannot chew them up and eat anything that might be harmful to them. Puppy proofing your house is essential! You must keep an eye on your new pup so when they do grab onto something that they shouldn't chew up, you can correct them and give them one of their toys. Make sure you sharply say NO when you catch them chewing upon something they shouldn't. They will understand this tone. Be consistent in your training and things will go along much smoother. It is even more important to give them praise for their good behavior. Keep in mind that they are young and will no doubt go back and do something they aren't supposed to. Just correct them again and keep it on track.

Leash Training

Leash training can also begin at this point in training your Golden Retriever. Begin around the house to help your puppy get comfortable with being on the leash before going out. It is very easy to just let him get a handle on having a collar and leash on in your own backyard. Once he has become familiar with these two items, pick up the leash and call out your puppy's name. When he comes to you, make sure that you give him lots of love and cuddles to show he/she did good. If you put the leash on your puppy every time you go to take him out back, he will begin to understand that the leash is associated with time to go out.
